KRBE … snakes on a plane

KRBE joins Cell-it with video.  This is a fun group.  Anybody that starts off with snakes, earthquakes, and bad acting has to be radio.  What and have fun.

Mobile Media … the reported point-of-view is wrong

It’s just to easy to kick newspaper and radio. We get it and it’s not worth repeating. But consider two o f the most reported news-views today are wrong. Mobile media isn’t cell phone television. Second, reports about the death of radio/newspapers are greatly exaggerated.

Our attention seems miss-directed. Mobile media expressed today is just about cell phones with shortened television shows, news, and more advertising. It is hard to get by without reading the next Google, Yahoo, YouTube mobile media ad-ventures. The big guys make one small move and we read about it for days.

Take a hard look at what “they” seem to offer. Controlled media broadcast at their direction to us. Besides the point of view … our cell phones … what’s new here? More repeated news. Abbreviated entertainment to tease us into watching longer versions on another air wave?

We’re supposed to watch while we pay higher and higher cell phone bills? The bait is so easy to take. That marvelous camera phone almost FREE with contract renewal. How clever. Then we are supposed to watch as the jingle starts … two-bits, four-bits, six-bits a dollar.

There is another view. There are great prospects for newspaper and radio. Cell phones do more than listen they can talk.

Newspaper and radio are the true mobile media. They are everywhere, they are mobile, they provide radio-immediacy and print depth with variety. We get them very cheaply or free. Daily listeners exceed the internet users. Daily readers exceed broadband reach. More importantly, both newspaper and radio are in more homes than can afford the latest Vista powered, broadband consuming, mega hertz burning screens.

I suggest mobile media joint forces and succeed as no one today expects. Radio, newspapers, and that marvelous cell phone video camera. Radio and newspapers have a tremendous voice into the marketplace that can invite their audience to join them. This audience and their media are the most mobile forces in the marketplace.

Invite that mobile cell phone camera to become part of your media platform. They have content they want to share. They want to be part of a community. They want to be recognized. If you give them what they want then they will be part of your audience for a long time. They will share their recognition with friends and your total audience will grow. The new relationship with your audience will bring renewed vitality and a long lasting place in their daily lives.

Newspaper and radio one-way communication is in trouble. Take the advice of an afternoon TV show host and begin talking with your audience. Get their cell phone cameras out and let them express themselves. Don’t be afraid of what they have to say because they have a lot to say about your future.

Radio and newspapers have a wonderful time ahead because they are mobile. Camera equipped cell phones enable an audience to participate. Now, if you three will just get your act together the show will be incredible.

Where am I?

You can start your video program with a request for audience pictures (or videos). Ask for pictures of unique locations in your audience listening/viewing area. Pictures or video both work. Then invite the web page visitors to guess the location, purpose, message in the media. Some examples are … high gasoline prices … where am I? Sports score board … what game am I watching? Team celebration … where? I’m sure you can add more ideas. Where Am I?
