Radio-info (241,488 Monthly Visits says Compete.com) – Leads off with new Arbitron/Edison research findings:  the mobile phone is the king of convergence; consumers (?) call for radio on mobile phones; smartphones carry preferred audio entertainment to the car; radio still #1 for music discovery at 39% but internet is preferred by 31% up from 9% seven-years ago [see the momentum?]; and among key 18-34s music discovery is 52% internet vs 32% for radio.  Link to full study in the article. Radio-info (241,488 Monthly Visits says Compete.com) – Cumulus CEO sources $1B promised equity + debt to buy radio stations.  Looks like he’ll be a hot commodity at the NAB show for desperate sellers and lot’s of lenders that want to get out of failing loans.  This is hard core business of buying distressed assets at the right price while attempting to grow businesses along with significant efficiencies.  No mention of creating superlative radio programming with tendrils of new media platforms.  Glenn Beck makes $32M last year with TV, radio, digital/online, books, and appearances.  [He could teach Wall Street how to make $$$ in radio.]   Read more …
